Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. – The “wonder of the seas“, the largest cruise ship in the world, docked on Monday at Taino Bay port, in Puerto Plata, north of the Dominican Republic, a country that received more than a million cruise visitors in 2022.
The ship, owned by Royal Caribbean, can accommodate 6,988 passengers and has a crew of 2,300 people.
It was built in St. Nazare (France), measures 64 meters wide and 362 meters long. The ship has The Ultimate Abyss, the highest slide at sea, a 10 meter high zip line, a surf simulator, rock climbing walls, and more than 20,000 real plants in its own “Central Park”.
The Dominican Republic received 7.5 million tourists between January and November 2022, almost three million more than in the same period of 2021, a record for the country, according to the latest available data from the Ministry of Tourism.
Almost 6.5 million tourists arrived by air, while over 1 million did so by cruise.
