New York, United States. – A Dominican man has accused paramedics of attacking him while they were supposed to be helping him in Upper Manhattan.
Fernando Betances, 40 years old, said that those who were supposed to help him turned into his attackers on December 29th, when he passed out and his family called for an ambulance.
Yovanna Caba, Betances’ mother, said that “when he (Fernando) woke up and saw so many people around him, he didn’t know what was happening. He didn’t want to go to the hospital. That’s why they attacked him, even though he was telling them he couldn’t breathe,” she said.
The attack was recorded by witnesses.
Betances and his family are demanding justice, which is why they are suing the Presbyterian hospital and its staff.
The paramedics, who belong to the Presbyterian hospital, have been suspended.
