Dominican National faces life in prison for human smuggling operation in texas

LAREDO, Texas. – The Dominican Wilkin Perez Perez, 34, pleaded guilty to transporting immigrants within the United States, resulting in two deaths, announced the federal prosecution.

Perez had been in charge and managing the transportation of foreigners to the United States, as well as the accommodation of those people in the country.

In September 2017, Melvin L. Barahona Godoy and Yoryi Alexis Perez took several people to the Rio Grande. Two of the illegal aliens drowned while trying to cross the river to enter the United States. Their bodies were found on the river banks.

The investigation led to Perez Perez, who had returned to the Dominican Republic. The authorities finally arrested him on the charges and later extradited him to the United States.

Federal district judge Diana Saldana will impose the sentence at a later date.

The defendant has been and will remain in custody pending the hearing, faces life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Godoy, 27, from Guatemala, and Alexis Perez, 33, from the Dominican Republic, were also charged with the same crimes and are already serving sentences.
