SANTO DOMINGO: The Dominican passport starts 2023 in 78th place in terms of travel freedom, according to the Henley & Partners Passport Index, a reference for evaluating the number of countries that citizens can travel to without the need to apply for a visa.
This represents a slight decrease of four points in the ranking of the index for the Dominican passport compared to the beginning of 2022, where it was ranked 74th. However, this does not imply changes in access to visa-free countries compared to that year.
As of December 22, 2022, holders of a passport from the Dominican Republic could travel to 70 countries and territories without a travel visa or with a visa on arrival, as was the case at the beginning of 2022.
On the other hand, Passport Index places the global reach of the Dominican passport at 42%. The well-known database maintains a mobility score of 83 for our document, as it did at the beginning of 2022. Unlike the Henley Index, Passport Index indicates that Dominican citizens can access 80 countries without a visa (including those that you can apply for a visa on arrival).
Citizens of the Dominican Republic are among the few Latin American nations, such as Bolivia and Ecuador, that do not yet enjoy the visa-free regime with the European Union (Schengen visa).
