Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – The prestigious University of Hebei International Studies in China, awarded the title of Distinguished Professors to the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic, Franklin Garcia Fermín, and the Deputy Minister, Carmen Evarista Matías, for their contributions to education.
The President and Rector of Hebei, Sun Jianzhong, praised Garcia Fermín for “his tireless work in favor of the academic spheres of the Dominican Republic, promoting equal opportunities in the Caribbean country for men and women.”
“For us, and for the Dominican Republic, not only in our condition as a professor for many years but also as the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Dominican Republic, we feel highly honored and very grateful for this recognition that places us, in academic terms, in a place of great importance, to say the least privileged,” he said.
He indicated that the Dominican Republic has made educational progress in recent years, in which Garcia Fermín has significantly contributed to strengthening the study programs of the university centers.
Jianzhong highlighted the international scholarships awarded to young Dominicans during Garcia Fermín’s tenure.
The head of the Mescyt thanked the University of Hebei for the high distinction and the government and people of the People’s Republic of China.
Garcia Fermín ensured that the government of President Luis Abinader has not spared efforts so that young Dominicans can train in the most prestigious universities in the world, despite the effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He said that the Dominican Republic is advancing in the field of education due to a process of cooperation and understanding between government authorities and the university sectors.
