Luis Abinader Condemns “Unjustifiable” Acts of Violence in Brazil

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, expressed his repudiation against the “unjustifiable” violent acts that have occurred in Brazil, threatening its democracy and expressing solidarity with the current government of Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.

Abinader, through his Twitter account, stated: “In the name of the Dominican Government, I express the most energetic repudiation and condemnation of the unjustifiable acts of violence against the powers of the State and democracy in Brazil. All our solidarity and support to the Government and the people of Brazil,” Abinader wrote.

Anti-riot police entered the presidential palace of Planalto, the seat of the Brazilian government, which had been taken over by hundreds of radical followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro, on Sunday.

Dozens of agents climbed the ramp leading to the first floor of the palace, firing tear gas, while another group of uniformed officers surrounded the building.

The police also entered the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court, regaining control of the building, which had also been taken over by radicals.

Anti-riot police continue to confront radicals in the vicinity of the Three Powers Square, where the seats of the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches are located.

Hundreds of Bolsonaro supporters continue to occupy the headquarters of the National Congress, while police maintain a cordon in the area, according to images captured by television.

Thousands of far-right radicals, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, violently entered the Planalto palace and the seats of the Legislative and Supreme Court on Sunday, causing damage to the furniture of these buildings.

The demonstrators do not recognize the result of the presidential elections of October 30 and are trying to promote a coup against Lula, who assumed the presidency on January 1.

After the serious events, Lula decreed the intervention of the security bodies of Brasilia, to put the regional police forces under the direct orders of the government.
