Dominicans in New York pay tribute to young “palmeros”

New York, United States.- Political and community organizations remembered the 51st anniversary of the combat death of young men Amaury Germán Aristy, Virgilio Perdomo, Ulises Cerón, and Bienvenido Leal Prandy (La Chuta) here.

The event took place in Juan Pablo Duarte Square in Upper Manhattan, where a floral offering was placed and the 56th anniversary of the disappearance and murder of the leader of the Dominican Popular Movement and union advisor Guido Gil Diaz was also remembered.

Delegations from the parties Frente Amplio, Alianza Pais, Patria para Todos, MPD, Socialista Dominicano, Comite de Homenaje a Orlando Martinez, Fuerza de la Revolucion, Movimiento Democratico Progresista and the Duartiano Institute participated in the activity, among others.

Roberto Castillo, representing the Committee for the Homage to the Heroes and Heroines of the Motherland, said that the current conditions of the left and progressive forces had never been in such “optimal conditions” as they are now.

He added that the Dominican Republic is still a victim of the same events that led the “Palmeros” to fight the way they did and “that led our martyrs and heroines to offer their lives”.

He stated that the Dominican Republic continues to be in worse conditions than at the time when we put our lives at risk in the search for freedom and the general well-being of our people.”

On the other hand, Professor Marino Mejia, leader of Frente Amplio, remembered that “on January 12, 1972, a group of young people with hearts swollen with patriotism offered their lives for an ideal that is, to a great extent, the same as we are seeking who are in this act of remembrance”.
