Santo Domingo, DR. – The legendary communicator and commentator Dr. Julio Hazim suggested to the National Congress to modify the current electoral law or constitutional reform to eliminate the Dominican vote abroad because those elections only serve to squander state money.
Criticizing the election of legislators from abroad in his program “Revista 110” which is transmitted by the Coral 39 and Carivisión channels with thousands of followers and 111,000 subscribers on YouTube, he remembered that the overseas constituencies were a constitutional creation as part of the struggle of the historical leader of the PRD and the PRM, the late Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, who sought to compensate for the contributions of the Dominican diaspora to the economy of his country, but that over the years, it has been shown that they have become a disaster and nonsense because the legislators elected abroad have never done anything for the diaspora or the country.
Hazim said that Dr. Yomare Polanco’s fight against the conspiracy that was executed against him in the 2020 elections in the 1st district in the United States, demonstrates the uselessness of these overseas votes and the abolition of the overseas constituencies.
“The dispute that has been going on for over two years for alleged fraud in the election of Yomare Polanco as an overseas legislator, could leave as a benefit the submission of a bill that eliminates the vote abroad,” added the communicator.
He pointed out that the overseas constituency at its creation intended to improve the living conditions of the diaspora, “but that was a disaster and continued because there were people who gave it life: one in Puerto Rico, Miami, three in the United States and one in Europe.”
He added that “that, for the only thing it served was to spend money, because it served for nothing. Tell me, what legislator abroad has contributed anything after that figure was created?”.
He explained that the only thing that contributed was that in the last elections (2020), a community, businessman who decided to run was not satisfied with the results and has a fight morning, afternoon and night, 365 days twice because Yomare Polanco has been claiming for two years that he won the constituency that corresponds to New York and its surroundings.
“He insists, everyone knows that this is not going to be reversed and he (Polanco) accuses of corruption the board over there, the board here of complicity, the parties, those who did not defend him, everyone, because he is aware that he won, but the problem does not stop there,” Hazim says.
“The problem is that it showed that the funds and the way in which that was carried out, was not the ideal or the correct,” said the communicator.
In response to Hazim’s comments, Polanco sent a mass message through his digital platforms in which he says “Julito didn’t say it, but it became clear that the Dominican vote in the USA has been used by organized crime to capitalize and benefit in the name of Dominican democracy and constitution in North American territory against American citizens.
So there are two paths: either everything that was done in 2020 is repaired or the elections in the USA are eliminated so that the electoral mafia does not do any more harm to other citizens. I hope it is clear and understood that the ball is in the court of the Dominican authorities and not in mine…”
