SANTO DOMINGO, DR. – The Dominican Republic expressed its concern on Friday for the acts of violence that occurred yesterday in Haiti, where police attacked the private residence of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, due to the indifference of the authorities towards the death of more than a dozen agents at the hands of armed groups this month.
“The Dominican Government continues to closely follow the acts of violence that occurred at the airport in Port-au-Prince yesterday and rejects the maneuvers that delayed the return to office of the Prime Minister, Ariel Henry,” the Dominican Executive said in a statement.
In its note, the Dominican Government stated that it will continue to “closely monitor the situation” in the neighboring country and will continue to “take all necessary measures to maintain security and peace on our border and territory.”
During the attack yesterday on Henry’s residence, located in the Delmas 60 sector of Port-au-Prince, there were material damage and strong shots were heard, while several vehicles had their windows broken, according to local media.
Later, the protesters moved their protest to the surroundings of the Toussaint Louverture Airport in Port-au-Prince, where they raised barricades and burned tires, causing the paralysis of traffic and delaying the landing of the plane in which Henry returned from Argentina after participating in the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).
Haiti is immersed in a severe crisis in all orders and in a spiral of violence, for which its authorities have requested the sending of a foreign force.
