San Juan, PR. – The United States Coast Guard in San Juan reported on Wednesday that they repatriated two Dominicans and one Haitian after they were arrested west of Puerto Rico with 250 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $3.75 million.
On the evening of January 10th, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) aircraft detected a high-speed boat in the Mona Channel, located between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, according to authorities in a statement.
After this, the CBP agents began to pursue the boat on which the now-arrested individuals were traveling, who began to throw the drug bundles into the sea.
However, the drug – 250 kilograms of cocaine – was recovered.
The cocaine was hidden in 6 bundles, divided into 112 packages.
Two of the arrested individuals said they were Dominican citizens, while the third said he was Haitian, the coast guard said in the statement.
The operation to repatriate the arrested individuals was carried out by the Coast Guard agents, the Dominican Republic Navy and the National Drug Control Directorate of the Dominican Republic.
