LA VEGA, Dominican Republic. – A woman who had been trapped under the rubble of a four-story building that collapsed on Wednesday in this city has died.
The victim is Yasiris Joaquín de Jesús, 31, who leaves behind a three-month-old baby orphaned.
The young woman was an administrative area employee and at the time of the collapse she was on the first floor of the building, where the R&S Multimuebles store operated.
General César Arturo Abreu, head of the local Fire Department, said that the total weight of the structure fell on Joaquín, because she was on the first level.
“Unfortunately, we found her, it was faster than we were expecting, but she was already dead because she was on the first level and, being on the first, the three slabs fell on top of her, so death occurred there,” said Abreu.
