The former Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, has taken legal action against Máximo Castillo Salas for defamation

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – Former Education Minister Roberto Fulcar has taken legal action against Máximo Castillo Salas, whom he accuses of defaming him through electronic media.

The complaint with civil constitution was filed by Julito Fulcar, on behalf of his brother Roberto Fulcar, with the District Attorney’s Office of the National District, in which Castillo Salas is accused of violating articles 367 and 371 of the Criminal Code; and Article 21 of Law 53-07, on Crimes and High Technology Offenses, which criminalize and punish defamation committed through electronic media.

The Fulcar family, whose lawyers are Melania Ingrid Hidalgo Martínez and Edwin Acosta, requests in criminal proceedings the maximum penalty provided for in Law 53-07 and in civil proceedings an indemnity of ten million pesos.

The complaint states that Castillo Salas alleged and stated, through a YouTube program, that Roberto Fulcar, as a result of his recent trip to the United States, had contact with North American authorities with the intention of offering information on drug trafficking actions in favor of the campaign of personalities, current government officials, and legislators.

Specifically, the complaint argues that Castillo Salas imputes to Roberto Fulcar collaboration with the judicial authorities of the United States in the proceedings against former mayor Yamil Abreu and current congressman Miguel Gutiérrez, currently detained in that country, on a supposed exchange of money from drug trafficking to finance José Ignacio Paliza, current Minister of the Presidency; Eduardo Estrella, current President of the Senate, and the electoral campaign of the current President of the Republic Luis Abinader.”

In requesting the admission of the complaint, Fulcar requested that Castillo Salas be convicted in criminal proceedings to the maximum of the penalty established by law for this type of legal infraction and in civil proceedings to the payment of an indemnity of ten million pesos as just compensation for the damages that would have caused Roberto Fulcar.
